Barrytown School is a small rural school, nestled between the rugged sea and rainforest in the heart of Barrytown, a small community in New Zealand's beautiful West Coast.
The school caters for Years 1-8 in a co-educational environment where we strive to give our students a strong start in their education.
Thanks to the generosity of the Board of Trustees, the school operates two classrooms which allows for small class sizes, and also employees full time teacher aides.
The first open air classroom in New Zealand, built in 1939 is located at the front of the school and is currently where our Year 4-8 ākonga learn.
This is the heart of the school, homing the office, toilets, staffroom and where the Year 0-3 ākonga learn.
The swimming pool is salt water and heated via a heat pump. It is a great asset for the school with ākonga and members of the community using it during Term 1 and Term 4.
Located at the front of the school, the playground is a popular place for ākonga to play.
